iBurst Proxy problems

It looks as though iBurst have installed a new Squid proxy in Johannesburg. From what I can see they have”nt done it very well, as the timeout is too short, and many international websites only work on the second refresh.

I think this is compounded by their seeming lack of bandwidth that users have been complaining about all week. Cape Town users also seem to be routed via JHB which was never the case before, so it looks as though the iBurst network is taking a little strain.

The choice to use Squid, as a caching proxy is also a little worrying (dont get me wrong, Squid rocks in most instances) as it isnt recommended for use on mission critical Telco level services. I think they have underspeced and badly configured this implimentation and lets hope they re-evaluate it soon.

Here is the error I got when connecting from Cape Town this morning.
